I have a distinct memory of Mr. Carey offering this advice before my first algebra test: “Remember, it’s not cheating if you ask the Holy Spirit for help.” This kind of comment would characterize my experience at Crown. Every assignment or activity encouraged us to think holistically about education, creativity, family, and vocation through the lens of a life lived with Christ. I was challenged academically by the open-ended, project-based assignments. I learned to think critically yet curiously, and look for out-of-the-box solutions to problems. I also developed a sense of individual responsibility for my work. This helped me greatly when I attended the Torrey Honors Institute at Biola University because I was already equipped with strategies for balancing my course-load with community life.

After graduating Summa Cum Laude, I became the Marketing Content Coordinator for the global non-profit Darkness to Light. I oversee a number of projects and marketing campaigns that utilize all of those skills I cultivated at Crown. The spiritual foundation I built at Crown has also held strong in the years since graduating. One of the things that benefited me the most was learning to seek the Lord in every corner of life- in the Bible, sure, but also in modern American short stories, in working relationships, in ancient world history, when I’m on social media, and yes, even in Algebra.

As a graduating senior I am genuinely grateful to have been able to attend Crown Leadership Academy since seventh grade. Crown provides a unique environment that allows students the opportunity to work on their individual goals and interests. This supportive, flexible curriculum allowed me to pursue nontraditional high school course work and I was able to attain my student pilot license, achieve my Level 2 Krav Maga certificate, and, most importantly, receive a very competitive full scholarship to a Russian University.

I have been interested in Eastern Europe for many years. Crown allowed me to gain my language credits outside of school with private Russian lessons. In 2019 I applied for the US Department of State National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) scholarship. I had to write many essays for the application, Crown's English teacher Ms. Sheila was so helpful. With Crown's help, I was fortunate to spend the summer studying Russian at the University of Tartu in Narva, Estonia. The program was one of the best experiences of my life. When I returned from the program, I wanted to apply for the 2020 NSLI-Y Russian Academic year. Once again, Crown was supportive and contributive with this lengthy and very competitive application process. I am happy to say I was awarded the full scholarship to study Russian at the Ion Creangă Pedagogical State University, in Chisinau, Moldova, for my first year of university beginning in the Fall. I'm very grateful for the opportunities provided by Crown. The school is like a family and is inspiring in its message that God has a plan for every one of its students.

Senior Project

Internship

Our seniors complete a one semester internship in their potential career choice. The internship requirements include research and on site contact hours, working alongside professionals in an authentic setting. Occasionally, seniors realize their planned career choice is not suitable for their individual needs after all.

Personal Finance

Each senior completes Personal Finance coursework that includes basic skills, such as filing taxes and managing budgets. It emphasizes the relationship between long term investment planning of time and resources and life goals. In addition, the student gains an awareness of how his investment planning can help to change the world.

Many Crown high school students earn college credit while in high school to fulfill graduation requirements. We recognize that one size does not fit all in Dual Enrollment, where individual learning styles can dramatically influence success. Crown’s Guidance Counselor works with each interested family to identify the best Dual Enrollment option that meets student’s needs and long term goals. Financial assistance is also part of this discussion.
